Chinese Apps posed a serious security threat

india-china-relationsNew Delhi ( Navank Shekhar Mishra ) The Central Government’s decision to ban Chinese Apps is a very significant one given the risk & threats to national security these Apps posed. I have been fighting a case against one of these Apps, which has now been banned and have gathered much evidence against the same. The documents and facts, which were unearthed in the process show how grave risk these Apps have been posing. The Government should have taken the decision to ban these Apps much earlier.

My research and analysis of the activities of Chinese App, website and browser revealed how they  have committed various offences including cyber terrorism, attempt to provoke communal riots , promoting anti Indian and other content hampering and posing a potential threat to the national security , publishing and promoting news content against the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, other national leaders of the country and against Indian Defence Forces . It was also publishing and promoting pornographic, obscene and vulgar content .

All this was done by these Chinese companies in a well planted manner and with a hidden agenda of attacking upon the sovereignty of India and that too while working within the geographical limits of our country. These Apps are a potential threat to data security, which is the backbone of national security. The issue was even raised in Lok Sabha in April 2017. One example of their illegal activities is how one of these companies developed an App to book train tickets for Indian Railways in 2017, when no such authorization or permission was given.

One of these Chinese companies also developed , “Content Censorship” software. A list of approximately 2000 sensitive words from Chinese Government perspective were prepared, which included the following words among others: ITBP, South China Sea, NSG, NPT, China & Pakistan, Sino-India war, China ko sabak, Aksai Chin, Siachen, China-Pakistan-corridor,  Pakistani Jihad, Baloch camp; atrocities, China line of actual control, dictatorship, International campaign for Tibet, etc. These words were red flagged and employees were asked to get all the details.

One of these Chinese browsers displayed the websites of our public sector units, which was totally unauthorized, as was revealed through an RTI. This was done with the sole purpose of spying and data theft.Government should maintain strict vigil on all Chinese Apps or companies operating in India for the nation’s security and for protecting the data and interests of Indian citizens.
